Editorial Clinic
I offer constructive editorial advice, professional manuscript appraisal and one to one mentoring.
If you are working on a novel, short stories, flash fiction, children’s literature, travel and life writing or other creative non-fiction, and would like guidance on how to proceed, I can offer a tailor made response depending on your word count and the level of feedback you require.
You can book a consultation for a verbal assessment of your work (for an hour’s one-to-one I usually request a 500 word extract sent in advance) or you can order a more detailed written report with guidelines for self-editing, and advice about plot, characterisation, marketability etc.
I will highlight what works well, what could be improved, and suggest ways to strengthen your writing and shape your manuscript so that it is as good as it possibly can be before submitting to an agent or publisher. Good editorial advice will support your book’s ability to stand out in a highly competitive market.
I can also advise on your submission to publishers /agents, your covering letter, 1 page synopsis and first 3 chapters – up to a specific word count. Your opening chapters should serve a purpose and include the hook, set up and inciting event as well as progressing plot, introducing character etc.
